I recently purchased a used (1 owner; 93k mi) 2014 Malibu. No problems so far. Vehicle history showed timely routine maintenance was performed; no mention of brake system defect.
I have a 2018 Malibu and replaced the vacuum pump last year after it went out while I was driving in traffic and I had no brakes. I almost ran into the back of someone’s car. Now this year I have it in the shop again and the dealership is saying the vacuum pump is out again and this time I also need a new engine plus a new turbo. They’re telling a estimate of around 10 to 12 thousand to fix it. It’s not even been a year since I replaced the vacuum pump last year. Oh and this time it lost complete power while I was driving it and luckily I was able to coast it off the road. The dealership wants over 4 hundred dollars just for me to pick the car up after they told me what’s wrong with it and they literally didn’t do anything really so it’s still there right now.

Had to have my break system replaced twice now on my 2017 Malibu and had to get a bridge stone credit card to help me cover the cost.
Been having the same problem with my 2015 LT for over a year. Purchased it used less than two years ago and 6 months into owning it started having problems with the brake booster and it sometimes sets off my check engine light and “service brake assist” code. it’s been over a year and I’ve been to 4 different shops over a dozen times and no one can figure out how to fix it. Just brought it in to where I bought the car (I bought used from a Honda dealership and figured they wouldn’t know that to do with it as it ls a complex problem and they only specialize in Hondas) as Ive had enough and they had to ship it to the chevorlet dealership and give me a loaner car to have them look at it as they can’t diagnose the problem.

I just went through this – 2016 Malibu – been under repair for 2 weeks. Luckily my mechanic took extra time to try to get all of the shattered pcs out to try to prevent further damage to my vehicle. Very scary – NO brakes at all….no brake pedal compression. Please add me to your list.

yess!! i’m going through this right now. my brakes randomly went out when i was driving with my 2 year old and now my car is inoperable. the dealer diagnosed a faulty vacuum pump that had sent pieces of metal into the camshaft. i need a bunch of new stuff and i’m praying my extended warranty covers it. i’ve only had my car for 6 months it’s a 2020. :(

I bought a 2018 2.0T and the back brake light on top cracked in half already. My shifter didn’t go into park. I have had no break issues yet.
Yes my 2013 Malibu did the same thing then they told me it was fixed back it out of the dealer shift after them telling me it was fixed about hit a telephone pole because it would not stop
